There have been a few variants of the name Norquoy, Norquay, Nurquoy, Nurqwoy, Nurkway, Northquoy. Nowadays there just seems to be the two forms - Norquay & Norquoy.
Norquoy is regarded as an Orkney name, a look at the IGI for the British Isles shows 96% of the Norquoys were born in Orkney, and being localised in the parish of South Ronaldsay in particular.
George F Black, The Surnames of Scotland (Edinburgh, 1993) states:
Norquoy: Old Orcadian surname from one or other of the places
named N. in the islands. Old Norse: nord kvi "north fold".
